Statement
As a kid
I always imagined creatures and other odd things living everywhere-
in my bed, in the folds of my curtains, hidden among the carpet
forest. Every aspect of my life would transform into an imaginary
world with bountiful things to discover and explore. My life
has not changed so much since then.
With my education as well as years of drawing weird and imaginary
things, I have developed a strong grasp of technical draftsmanship.
But I soon found out that people try to justify every mark
you make and desire to understand why you drew something.
I longed to be able to create images and marks just for the
heck of it and just say, “Because I felt like it”.
The worlds and creatures I visualize do not conform to any
preconception or planning beforehand. The abstract shapes
reflect what I am feeling at the moment, manifesting the spontaneity
of my thought process through action and reaction. My drawings
embody and capture the worlds and creatures that start to
unfold right in front of my eyes. It’s almost as if
I am the portal to another dimension in a sci-fi film.
My artwork is not only paintings and drawings, but reflections
of what goes on in my head when I play, poo, eat, sleep and
daydream. I want people to be confused and not understand
exactly what they are seeing, yet still be intrigued and curious
by the world I create. |
